Χρήστος Ντικμπασάνης: Poem for Mother’s day

QUESTIONS

Mother, my sweet mother
why did we come here?
What are we looking for on this planet?
What do we dream
What do we crave
What invisible forces they push us inland?
One night we light up fires to warm
our tired flesh
On the other, our tears
they roll red-hot from the merciless Sun
Why did we come here, mother?
What are we looking to find
in the depths of it
of the unknown planet?
What do we think
that we will succeed
in these inhospitable lands?

Make  your heart  like ancient marble
Don’t drown in sobs of loneliness
What we desire, what we ask for
is to push human life
a few centimeters deeper
in the eternal night,
son, my sweet son
