Nrdaa Al-Durubi: “Misery”

Επιμέλεια: Εύα Πετροπούλου Λιανού

A tear trembled on her cheek
Soaked in the veil of her misery
If only she knew the world better
She, like a rose in the prime of her youth
She cried out to death to take her
And to the winds to carry her
To save her from life’s tragedies
And open life’s doors to her
If only she knew the world better
She, like a rose in the prime of her youth
A rose wandering in the fields of her kindness
She is youth lost in her dreams
If only she knew the world better
She, like a rose in the prime of her youth
Her only sin is her kind heart and her sufficiency
If only she knew the world better
She, like a rose in the prime of her youth

First poem written in 1983. Poetry by Nrdaa Al-Durubi

My inner strength

From rock my stories unfolded
And from resolve my gifts overflowed
And with wheat I wove my smiles
That truth is born in my courtyards
And the olive branch is the fence of my life
And peace is planted in my moments
Thus I learned, driven by my humanity
To expel the monsters who
Destroyed my life
And to eradicate the coming evil
So, winds of the earth, blow
And dispel my confusion with love
And rid me of the evil
That killed my hopes
Shall I remain dwelling in my sorrow
Or shall I wipe the hypocrites from my soil?
I am that loyal one, wearied by my cries
In the shadow of a justice turned upside down by my hours
Oh… How many battles I fought
To see the coming dawn
And my words are no longer of any use
