My Dear Poetry by Patrizia Faiello

Since your arrival, your presence is a joyful company,
I discovered you like a sweet friend, you, my tender poetry,
Thinking of what I could tell you is the happiness of recounting my life to you.
You are there, awake, shaping my thoughts in silence,
and you know very well that never, for anything in the world, could I betray them.
Sometimes appearances deceive us and keeping our balance exhausts us.
Every blank page is the space and time I dedicate to myself,
and every trace of life on paper takes shape, sharp as a coffee stain.
From peace in the world, we slip into war without knowing why,
and the slightest gesture makes me raise my head and think of you.
Colors and fragrances of distant lands come alive again in the eyes of loved ones.
Stories yet to be written, to paint one’s heart on one’s sleeve.
Yesterday, today, and tomorrow, I rewrite you this way, in the desire to read you and keep you here forever.

To Benedetta by Patrizia Faiello

Once I was a little girl, and I was always

traveling with my dreams.

I still remember that day when I imagined

your face:

because you felt so real, I had already given you a name.

In my heart “Benedetta” resonated, and, as in

the Rosary prayer,

blessed among women, my thoughts flew toward you.

Without haste Benedetta arrived, and from that instant

my whole world changed.

There is nothing about that wait that I will ever

forget.

Life gave me this joy:

all the love that lived inside me took shape with you.

Into the world you came with a cry, and I have

always been by your side.

A little treasure in my arms,

do you remember some of those tough nights too?

I don’t know for how much longer I will stand by

your side,

but remember that I will never leave you.

Time has flown by with you:

you are the most beautiful flower there is,

everyone has always said so, ever since you were a

baby.

I wish you peace and serenity, always,

because everything else will come in time.

Always be yourself with everyone.

Life won’t always smile upon you,

but your mom will never abandon you!
