Lying on the wooden floor
of the Main Buddha Hall,
the sky entered
only as far as
the open door allowed.
To look at the sky
was never
to speak of the whole sky.
The trees,
with their green leaves,
paint dancheong*
upon the sky.
Clouds like grazing sheep
wander into the painted eaves,
feeding on grass.
For a brief moment,
the insistent cries of cicadas
and the cuckoo’s call
fell silent,
as though they had never been.
The tips of the branches
grew still.
Something passed by.
Perhaps
it was an angel.
The wind passed.
Once more,
the insects and birds of the forest
began
their festival of sound.
Again,
I looked at the sky
only as far as
the open door allowed.
Nothing happened.
There was peace.
Peace—
as I softly repeated the word,
all these small things
surged within me,
and I nearly
burst into tears.
흔적 김영탁
대웅전 마룻바닥에 누워서 본 하늘은
문이 열린 만큼 들어왔다
하늘을 본다고 하늘 전부를 말할 수는
없었다
나무는 푸른 잎으로
하늘에 단청을 낳고 있다
양떼구름이 단청 속에 들어가
풀을 뜯고 있다
잠깐, 유난한 매미 소리와 뻐꾸기
소리가 거짓말처럼 멈추었다
나뭇가지 끝이 조용했다
뭔가 지나갔다
아마 천사일 것이다
바람이 지나갔다
다시, 숲에 사는 벌레와 새들의,
소리의 향연이
시작된다
다시, 문이 열린 만큼 하늘을 바라보지만
아무 일도 일어나지 않았다
평화로웠다
평화라고
되뇌어 보았던 이런 것들이
복받쳐 헤프게 눈물이
날 뻔했다.
A Single Green Leaf by Youngtak Kim
There are times
when a single green leaf
is dazzling to my eyes.
A green leaf
rides the sunlight,
wishing
to tint
a single window
green.
The sound of the wind,
drawing farther away
yet coming nearer,
enters the glass
and confines itself.
Imprisoned,
yet free,
the sound
awakens,
alive
in green.
How can I believe
the roads
stretching out
from a single leaf?
Along those roads
wheels keep turning.
Upon the wheels
I lie,
yet they roll
only
by their own will.
Still,
I show
not the slightest sign
of stepping off.
When a single green leaf
brushes
against my forehead,
when a single green leaf
stings my eyes,
I begin to imagine
the origin
of the leaf.
Upon every road
I have traveled,
I was there.
푸른 잎 하나가 김영탁
푸른 잎 하나 눈 시릴 때가 있다
푸른 잎은 햇살을 타고 날아가
유리창 하나 푸르게 하길 바란다
멀면서 가까워지는 바람 소리가 유리에게
들어와 스스로 갇힌다 갇혀서 자유로운 소리는
푸르게 살아 움직이며 눈을 뜬다
잎으로부터 뻗어 있는 길들을 믿을 수 없구나
그 길 위엔 바퀴가 굴러가고 바퀴 위에 내가
누워 있지만 바퀴는 바퀴의 의지로만 굴러간다
그러나 전혀 바퀴에서 내릴 기미가 없는 나
푸른 잎 하나가 내 이마를 스쳐갈 때
푸른 잎 하나 눈이 시릴 때
잎의 始原을 그려본다
지나온 모든 길 위에 내가 있었다
Kim Young Tag
Kim Young Tag was born in Yecheon, Gyeongsangbuk-do, South Korea. He made his literary debut in 1998 through the quarterly poetry journal Sian.
He is the author of the poetry collections Greeting the Distant Mountain as My Body Naturally Bows to the Birds’ Song and The Refrigerator Woman, as well as the essay collection In Search of the Taste and Beauty of Korean Art: Poetry, Food, Men and Women.
He completed graduate studies in Korean Language and Literature at Korea University and received both his M.A. and Ph.D. in Cultural Arts Management from the Graduate School of Venture Studies at Hoseo University.
Kim is the recipient of the 2nd Maegye Literary Award. He is active as both a poet and literary critic, serves as an Adjunct Professor of Media Communication at Hoseo University, and is the Publisher of Golden Egg Publishing and Editor-in-Chief of the quarterly literary magazine Literary Youth (Munhak Cheongchun). He also serves as an ISO Publishing Committee Member.
김영탁(金永卓)
김영탁은 대한민국 경상북도 예천에서 태어났다. 1998년 계간 시전문지 『시안』을 통해 등단하였다.
시집으로 『새소리에 몸이 절로 먼 산 보고 인사하네』와 『냉장고 여자』를 펴냈으며, 산문집 『한국예술의 맛과 멋을 찾아서 ― 詩食男女』를 출간하였다.
고려대학교 대학원에서 국어국문학을 수학하였고, 호서대학교 벤처대학원에서 문화예술경영 전공으로 석사와 박사 학위를 취득하였다.
제2회 매계문학상을 수상하였으며, 현재 시인과 문학평론가로 활발히 활동하고 있다. 또한 호서대학교 미디어커뮤니케이션학과 초빙교수로 재직 중이며, 황금알출판사 발행인과 계간 문예지 『문학청춘』의 주필을 맡고 있다. 아울러 ISO 출판위원으로도 활동하고 있다.
