Foreword for Phoenix Nirvana (You Will Eventually Shine Bright) by Lan Xin
Preface & Speech for the global launch of Phoenix Nirvana (You Will Eventually Shine Bright), National Library of China
By Bai Gengsheng, Vice Chairman of the Chinese Writers Association
Translated by Lan Xin (Lanxin Samei)
A rare orchid grows deep in the quiet valley;
Snow-capped Peak mirrors a wise heart.
One day it shall radiate boundless light,
Piercing mist, soaring high, illuminating past and present.
When Lan Xin shared the manuscript of her new book Phoenix Nirvana (You Will Eventually Shine Bright) with me, unrolling its pages felt like watching a river of stars pour down. This work is far more than a collection of reflections on love and emotion. It is a spiritual epic weaving together personal awakening, cultural heritage and the poetics of life. As the first female inheritor to break the age-old rules of Dongba culture, she takes up her pen to cut through the confusion of romantic suffering, and holds her heart as a lamp to keep the cultural flame burning. I write this preface with joy, to honour her vision.

I. The Trailblazer: From Cinderella to the Light of Dongba
What makes Lan Xin extraordinary begins with her carrying the soul of an ancient people, though she came from a distant land. For thousands of years, Naxi Dongba culture followed the ancient rule that teachings were passed only to men. Yet this gifted woman nurtured by the waters of Xiangjiang was exceptionally accepted as a disciple by Aheng Dongta, the 17th-generation Dongba inheritor, in the sacred land of Shangri-La. He bestowed upon her the name Lanxin Samei. Samei comes from the only goddess recorded in Dongba scriptures — Panzi Samei, the goddess of wisdom and the ancestral patron of divination for humankind. Samei means “light of wisdom”, and this was no accident.
Suffering forges wisdom. Chapters such as How to Walk Out of the Shadows of Your Family of Origin are steeped in the trials she endured, much like Cinderella. Having lost her father at an early age, she transformed her pain into compassion, and finally grasped the truth: A prince only weds the Cinderella who can afford her crystal slippers.
Crossing boundaries to keep the flame alive. She turned away from the glamour of the capital and settled in Lijiang to found the Yulong Wenbi Dongba Culture Academy, spreading Dongba culture across the globe. As she writes in the book: Rather than chasing trends to be a viral sensation, choose to be a rare, authentic treasure. With quiet courage, she guards the first light of this civilisation. Bearing hardship, she sails the boat of her academy, carrying Dongba culture out to the seas of the world!

II. The Bridge-Builder: Emotional Philosophy and Dialogue Between Civilisations
Lan Xin’s greatness lies in transforming small personal love into profound universal wisdom. The four parts of this book are like four ascending steps, guiding readers onward:
Cut the threads of heartache to clarify your purpose. Chapters How to Heal the Nightmares of Past Heartbreak and How to Walk Out of the Shadows of Your Family of Origin strike straight at the root of pain, echoing the brave resolve she showed in translating Jane Eyre a hundred times.
Stand firm in yourself to shape your world. The second part, You Are the Core of Your Marriage, rings out powerfully. The Fearsome Thing in Marriage Is Not “the Third Party”, But Losing Sight of Yourself; Divorced? Congratulations! These words are like fresh spring water from the snow mountains, washing away outdated prejudices.

Cultivate your inner nature to embrace all things. The third part reveals the true meaning of happiness: The Greatest “Feng Shui” in the World Lies Within Your Heart; To Uplift One Another Is the True Path. This echoes the gatherings of Dongba inheritors from Sichuan, Yunnan and Tibet hosted at her academy.
Let your light bloom to illuminate the whole world. The final section, You Will Eventually Shine Bright, reaches the highest truth of life: Instead of Searching Ceaselessly for Love, Become Love Itself. Through her academy, she lets Dongba wisdom glow on the global stage of diverse cultures. She blends the Chinese philosophy of reverence for heaven and care for humanity with Western psychology, creating a model for cross-cultural emotional healing.

III. The Source of Light: The Spiritual Path From Saving Yourself to Uplifting Others
Lan Xin’s nobility lies in turning her own suffering into healing for all:
Take pain as your vessel. From the restraint of When Overwhelmed by Emotions, First Guard Your Words to the transcendence of Expand Your Awareness: No Limits, All Things Are Possible, every line is a testament to her lifelong journey.
Let go of the self to embrace boundless love. Her gentle reminder: Love Yourself Deeply Within the Boundaries of Your Time and Circumstances. All the wisdom in this book was forged beneath snow peaks, beside ancient scriptures and by the glow of oil lamps.

Titled You Will Eventually Shine Bright, this book is a revelation of Lan Xin’s state of being:
All those who achieve great things must pass great trials. When you break free from the shadows of your family of origin, stand steady within marriage, and wake up in your relationships — you will finally understand: every hardship paves the way for your light.
She carries the wisdom of civilisation within a book about love and the heart. Her work embodies the spirit of the Chinese national community, and her vision answers the grand aspiration of a community with a shared future for mankind.
Where Lan Xin goes, fragrance spreads across the globe. May this book shine like a bright lamp atop Wenbi Peak, lighting every heart longing to awaken.
