They record civilisation via the world’s only living Dongba hieroglyphs

Preserving sacred age-old rituals passed down orally through generations

Presiding over grand ceremonies, embracing mortal prayers and virtuous aspirations

Ritual instruments and devotional chants carry universal compassion across heaven and earth

They devote their lives to protecting countless households yet gain no matching honour

Crowned in ceremonial regalia, they mediate between heaven and earth to guard all beings

Once stripped of ritual robes, they toil in mundane life through years of hardship and poverty

Trapped between financial strain and cultural preservation

They resolve to defend the fading flame of ancient civilisation through lifelong frugality

Few witness their silent struggles and forbearance hidden in the folds of time

They uphold the eternal radiance of human civilisation with towering resolve
