On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the death of Anđelija Lazarević.
Paris remained distant, and the canvases unfinished.
Where the shadow cut short your flight,
your words, Anđelija, survived a century.
A room grows narrow when one suffers inside it,
and while this invisible thing smolders beneath my skin,
I gaze upon our undreamed City of Light.
It is a refuge.
And let everything pass — the century, the night, the shadow —
within the same frame, a tear hides itself.
Art was the only echo
where a suffering soul remains alive.
