Deekshitha A.: “Colors of India – The tapestry”

Επιμέλεια: Εύα Πετροπούλου Λιανού

I am brown in color, and it’s beautiful
as the majestic mountains.
When I visit temples and churches,
I’m struck by their marvelous architecture.
I love draping different coloured saree,
each kind suited to a specific occasion.

In Hinduism, Lord Shiva and Krishna
are in ocean blue.
I’ve learned that purple is Indian royalty
orange glows on Indian beaches,
It also bleeds sacrifice.
White holds up peace to high Himalaya reach.
Fascinated am I by the vibrant colors of turmeric, sunflowers, and roses
In flower markets and function halls.

In churches, I see old bibles with brown covers,
In mosques features green and white minarets.
The  black burkhas worn by women for dignity.
In villages, the kutcha houses painted
with vibrant coloured rangoli .
designed in brown  mud and peach-coloured hay.

I remember old televisions with black and white screens
The military, and defence forces march
Green, white and blue.
Doctors paramedics, scientists show the healing of white.
Teachers in all weather glow,
Taking India to the heights.
:A Kaleidoscope of Colors in all our high’s  and lows.
