Risen Crow: “Our goal is always to stay true to our artistic vision”

Welcome to Polismagazino.gr. Introduce the band in few words.

Risen Crow is a power metal band from Rome, Italy, blending powerful riffs and symphonic arrangements with dark, gothic atmospheres. Our music walks the line between energy and melancholy, light and shadow — a balance that defines our sound and our storytelling.

When did you start as a band?

The Risen Crow project was born in 2020, founded by Claudio Vattone together with his close friends Giuseppe Longo and Antonella Della Monica. Soon after, Flavio Cicchetti, Filippo Martini, Francesco Menale, and Alessandro Bernabei joined, completing the current lineup.
From the very beginning, the aim was to give voice to a darker and more emotional side of metal, blending power and melancholy into a distinctive sound.

What is your first musical memory?

Our first real musical memory as Risen Crow is definitely our first live show. It was a special moment — the audience’s energy, the adrenaline, and the instant connection between us on stage made us realize that something truly genuine was taking shape. That night we felt the real strength of the project: music as a uniting force, turning seven different people into one single entity.

Who are the members of the band?

Risen Crow is a seven-piece band:

  • Claudio Vattone – Vocals
  • Antonella Della Monica – Vocals
  • Francesco Menale – Guitar
  • Giuseppe Longo – Guitar
  • Flavio Cicchetti – Bass
  • Alessandro Bernabei – Keyboards
  • Filippo Martini – Drums

Describe to us your career in music to date. Were there any decisive positive or negative influences?

Our career as Risen Crow began in 2020, and from the very beginning it has been an intense journey full of growth. A defining moment was definitely the release of our debut album, Requiem for a Damned Love, through Rockshots Records, which allowed us to establish our identity and reach a wider audience.

Some of the biggest challenges have been financial: investing in your passion requires resources that are not always readily available, and today managing communication through social media has become crucial for visibility. Despite these difficulties, each challenge has taught us something and pushed us to grow as musicians and as a band.

Among the most decisive positive influences were the energy of the audience during our live shows, the support of our fans, and the inspiration from the bands we admire, all of which helped strengthen our musical identity and the cohesion of the group.

Are you “scared” by success or failure?

We are not afraid of either success or failure. Success can be inspiring, but it can also risk making you lose sight of the true essence of music. Failure, on the other hand, is often a great teacher: it allows us to grow and understand more clearly what we want to express.
Our goal is always to stay true to our artistic vision — if we can do that, any outcome, positive or negative, becomes part of our journey.

Tell us a few words about your latest release.

Our latest release is the concept album Requiem for a Damned Love. From the very beginning, we wanted to tell an intense and unconventional story of a tormented love, exploring the most extreme and obsessive sides of love that are often overlooked but can have devastating consequences.
Each track represents a fragment of this emotional descent, and together they form a coherent and deep narrative where love, death, and madness are tightly intertwined. Musically, the album blends power, dark and melancholic atmospheres, with symphonic arrangements and vocal passages that range from gothic to power metal, fully representing our unique sound identity.

Who edits the lyrics and music?

Our creative process is very collaborative. It often starts from vocal lines, on which Giuseppe develops a melodic draft, and then each member adds their part, contributing to the final arrangement. This system was essential during the pandemic, when it was impossible to meet in the rehearsal room.
Now, as we write new songs, we are trying to work more together in the rehearsal room, fostering more direct and spontaneous interaction among all the band members.

What are your future music plans?

Our future plans are mainly focused on live performances: we want to take our music as far as possible, reaching new audiences and creating memorable experiences with every show. At the same time, we are working on a new album, aiming to evolve our sound and further explore the dark and powerful atmosphere that defines Risen Crow. Our goal is to grow as a band, stay true to our artistic vision, and continue to move those who listen to us.
