Who knows, perhaps,
I will become the People’s Poet of India.
Because I am valued and honored there more
than anywhere else.
Who knows, perhaps,
I am connected with this country by mutual love.
They say, a person is honored there,
where he is honored.
God grant that every person
be loved by someone, somewhere.
As a token of gratitude,
I offer both hands to my chin.

I CAME OUT INTO THE WORLD BY AN HONEST WAY…
I am proud that I came out into the world by an honest way:
without the help of relatives, close ones, friends,
fellow countrymen, compatriots,
like-minded people, co-religionists, co-linguists
but with the help of true healers of Poetry, Literature:
strangers, distant, unfamiliar, foreigners,
infidels, foreign-speaking,
who became for me relatives, close ones,
friends, fellow countrymen, compatriots,
like-minded people, co-religionists, co-linguists.
And all this by the will of God!
Rahim KARIM.
