Harinder Cheema: “The Role of a Bard”

Επιμέλεια: Εύα Πετροπούλου Λιανού

I saw an old couple trembling with fear
They were crying, their eyes wet with tears
Their heads hung low in guilt and shame
I wondered who they were and what were their names !
The old woman spoke in a tone of remorse
That of all worldly conflicts and wars, they were the cause
They were the reason behind every calamity
Behind environmental degradation and unsafe cities
They looked innocent with no sign of evil
Until lying close to them I saw the  forbidden apple
I froze there though I wanted to leave
But  I kept on staring at Adam and Eve
The apple was a reminder of their orginal sin
So I threw it in a dustbin
Adam and Eve smiled in relief
Satan stood in disbelief
The role of a Bard is to show the right way
And it starts with keeping temptation at bay.

The Power of Poetry

God visited me in my dreams
And handed me an iron key
He woke me from slumber deep
I could hear him in my sleep
He told me to open some locks
Tangible and mental blocks
As the world is unable to find
Peace,  love and hearts, kind
Compassion, Mercy and Trust are lost
Human Warmth is covered by materialistic frost
I was frightened by his rage
He handed me a pen and a page
Then he smiled and took back the key
And urged me to write poetry
A key to unlock the locks
A hammer to soften the hard rocks.
