TIDAL DREAMS: “We managed to create something really fresh and new”

“We have already arranged to move shows in Patras and Agrinio in 27-28 February, and we will surely play in other cities of Greece and maybe abroad, including Athens of course”

When did you start as a band?

The band started in 2010. It was a really experimental moment in our lives with music; no one expected what this would result in.

What is your first musical memory?

The first musical memory Nektarios recalls is chilling and playing guitar with Paris in his bedroom with his parents in the living room annoying them with riffs and screams trying to catch up to a good idea. After that, we wrote down the best riffs at the time, and later on, we composed our first two songs that would end up in the first album.

Who are the members of the band?

Nektarios Santamouris (vocals and bagpipes)
Paris Valadakis (guitar and bass)
John Sofis (guitar)
Akis Lazaropoulos (keyboards)
Nikos Bartsokas (drums)

Describe to us your career in music to date. Were there any decisive positive or negative influences?

Our career in music began in 2010, during a very experimental and instinctive period of our lives. We started out as friends exploring sound without expectations, driven purely by the need to create. Those early years were decisive—they taught us how to listen to each other, how to fail, and how to grow together as musicians and as people.

We’ve faced both positive and negative influences along the way. On the positive side, the strongest influence has been our bond as a band: surviving lineup changes, long breaks, and difficult circumstances—including the COVID years—ultimately strengthened our identity. On the negative side, the lack of industry support, limited resources, and long interruptions challenged our motivation and tested our patience. However, these obstacles also forced us to become self-reliant, honest, and resilient.

In the end, every difficulty shaped our sound and mindset. We realized that we can’t create apart, and that music is something we choose again and again, even when it’s hard. That realization continues to define our path forward.

Are you “scared” by success or failure?

I think it’s both yes and no, because we’ve been through a lot of difficulties together, especially the older members, and we managed after so many years, even during the COVID years, to stand together. Although we had a big intermission from working all together,we soon realised. We can’t make it apart; success is something we would love to experience, even if it scares us.

Tell us a few words about your latest release.

“We’ve risen again” is a really unique and mature step we took, written from all the band members, and released during really harsh situations. We enjoyed it no matter if it was a huge charger for a band with no label or support at any level, even during lockdowns. We managed to create something really fresh and new.

Who edits the lyrics and music?

Nektarios writes almost all of the lyrics, and Paris is always making sure that everything falls into place in the music “department”. The production and mixing are done mostly by Paris, trying to translate and fit everyone’s thoughts and style into each composition.

What are your future music plans?

We have already arranged to move shows in Patras and Agrinio in 27-28 February, and we will surely play in other cities of Greece and maybe abroad, including Athens of course.
We are already composing new songs, and the sound is going to be more genuine and rebellious than ever.
