You are the star beyond the time,
the mysterious bird,
the messenger of silence.
The air is full of rhymes,
and you don’t hesitate
to fly up to the deep blue sky.
The fruit is ripe in the Fall.
Your hands are gentle harps,
a golden cup.
You bring me the sun, the night
the dance.
You touch me,
and time stands still.
It won’t be for a long time, I know.
For the lovers, the time
is always short.
But your lips are a kiss
of eternity
because we hover in purple heaven,
drink the honey-water of dreams,
and you write your name forever
deep into my skin.
A FLOWER FLOATING ON THE WATER
Everything can happen
when you imagine yourself
sailing to an imaginary East.
One day, maybe,
Everything can happen!
I know.
But I don’t know why I’m asking
for sweet palm tree dates
on a rainy night.
If I could just anticipate
the gesture
of a flower floating on the water…
CHERRY TREES
You will never feel lonely
if you reach the slopes
of the white mountains,
where ancient fables
are waiting for you
and the cherry trees
are singing,
celebrating their brief
inflorescences,
and, unexpectedly,
come down to you,
pushing away the dark
clouds,
silently announcing
the arrival
of the morning gods.
Green family
I want to create my family
with the sounds of the Nature
the hands of the wind,
the words of Peace,
the crystalline waters
and the pristine purity
of the blue sky.
I grow, building up the cosmic
words glittering in the dust,
wrapped in the mist
of the stars.
All my sounds arise from
the depths of my soul
reaching the bright heavens,
looking for the loving birds
in the fragrant gardens
of the boundless world.
Maria do Sameiro Barroso (Portugal) is a Medical Doctor, a Germanist, and a multilingual poet, translator, essayist, scholar, and researcher in Portuguese and German Literature, Translation Studies, and the History of Medicine. Her diverse body of work, which includes over 40 books of poetry, translations, and essays, and her poems published in over thirty languages, showcases her versatility and depth of knowledge.
